Day 2: Sankri to Taluka
The second day of our trek takes us from Sankri to Taluka, a small village at 7,800 feet. The 12km ride is bumpy but worth it for the stunning views of the Har Ki Dun valley.Taluka is a charming village with traditional wooden houses and terraced fields. We spend the night here preparing for the difficult journey that lies ahead.
Day 3: Taluka to Seema
Our journey finally begins as we leave Taluka and make our way to Seema. The trail passes through dense pine and oak forests along which the Tons River flows. We are in awe of the mesmerizing beauty of the landscape as we tackle the winding paths and steep climbs.After a few hours of trekking we reach Seema, a small village surrounded by high mountains. Here we camp and enjoy a well-deserved rest under the stars.
Day 4: Seema to Lake Ruinsara
Today is the hardest day of our journey as we reach the crown jewel of this journey: Lake Ruinsara. The path gets steeper and the air thinner the closer we get to our destination. The landscape changes radically, rocky terrain, glacial streams and alpine meadows appear.The sheer splendor of the surroundings fills us with a sense of wonder and adventure. Finally, after several hours of trekking, we see Lake Ruinsara for the first time, glittering like a jewel between the mighty mountains. The view is truly impressive and we take a moment to immerse ourselves in the beauty of this untouched nature.
Day 5: Exploration and Rest Day
The fifth day of our trip is devoted to exploring the region around Lake Ruinsara. The area is a nature lover’s paradise, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, wildflowers and waterfalls. We calmly walk around the lake, absorbing the tranquility of this place and capturing its beauty with our lenses. For those looking for more adventure, there is the option of trekking to Kyarkoti, a high-altitude pasture with panoramic views of the th Himalayas. We stay overnight at Ruinsara Lake and fall asleep to the soothing sounds of nature.
Day 6: Lake Ruinsara to Seema
As our journey comes to an end, we bid farewell to Lake Ruinsara and begin our descent towards Seema. The descent is relatively easier and allows us to enjoy the scenery and reflect on the incredible experiences we have had so far. In the evening we reach Seema and camp for the night, remembering our time at Lake Ruinsara.
Day 7: Seema to Sankri
On the penultimate day of our journey we return from Seema to Sankri. The descent takes you through forests and grasslands where wildlife such as Himalayan langurs and musk deer may be spotted from time to time.Familiar sites of Sankri emerge and we cannot help but feel accomplished upon the completion of this difficult journey. We spend the night in Sankri and celebrate the successful journey with a good fire and stories about our adventures.
Day 8: Sankri to Dehradun
On the last day we drive back to Dehradun where our journey ends. The return is filled with mixed feelings: a hint of sadness at having left the mountains behind, but also a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the memories we created. We say goodbye to the Himalayas and carry in our hearts the indelible beauty and tranquility of Lake Ruinsara.
